Regional Sporting Events

The Sunshine Coast is one of Queensland's most active regional sporting destinations — hosting representative and carnival-level competitions across netball, rugby league, rugby union, touch football, oz-tag, and more throughout the year.

A Hub for Regional Sport

The Sunshine Coast has established itself as one of Queensland's premier regional sporting destinations — with world-class venues, excellent facilities, and an accommodation infrastructure well-suited to travelling teams and their families. Throughout the year, carnivals and representative competitions across netball, rugby league, rugby union, touch football, and oz-tag draw clubs and associations from across south-east Queensland and beyond.

Two major multi-sport complexes anchor the Sunshine Coast's sporting calendar: the Kawana Sports Precinct in Bokarina and the Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex on Fishermans Road. Together they provide the courts, fields, and facilities to accommodate events of almost any scale — and both sit within easy reach of some of the region's best accommodation.

The Kawana Sports Precinct is the Sunshine Coast's flagship sporting hub — a 45-hectare complex in Bokarina that serves as home to Sunshine Coast Stadium and a broad range of outdoor and indoor sporting facilities. The precinct hosts international, national, state, and local competitions year-round, and is a central part of the Sunshine Coast's infrastructure development ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.

The Eastern Precinct features six national-standard rectangular fields with floodlighting, regularly used for rugby league, rugby union, soccer, touch football, oz-tag, and gridiron carnivals. Sunshine Coast Stadium — the centrepiece of the complex — holds 1,046 grandstand seats with up to 10,000 general admission for major sporting events. Current indoor facilities include Kawana Indoor Sports, with courts for netball, soccer, and beach volleyball. A new $142 million Sunshine Coast Indoor Sports Centre is under construction within the precinct, due to open in 2027 with 11 multi-sport courts and a 6,000-seat show court built to national and international standard.

Where to Stay — Kawana Precinct Events

Mooloolaba is the closest major accommodation hub — just a 5–10 minute drive from the Kawana Sports Precinct — with the widest range of options from beachfront apartments to budget motels. Bokarina and Kawana have limited accommodation but sit immediately adjacent to the venue. Maroochydore provides a solid alternative a short drive north.

The Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex on Fishermans Road is the Sunshine Coast's primary netball venue and one of the region's busiest multi-sport facilities. Home to the Sunshine Coast Netball Association — one of Queensland's largest regional associations — the complex hosts more than 10,000 games of netball each year, drawing in excess of 60,000 people annually across competition, carnivals, and representative events.

The complex is a regular host for the SCNA Junior and Senior Representative Carnival and has staged major Queensland Netball events including Junior State Age Championships. Its scale — 20 dedicated netball courts alongside four full-size ovals and three soccer fields — makes it one of the most comprehensive multi-sport facilities in regional Queensland, capable of running large multi-division carnivals simultaneously across all courts.
