About the Race

The Noosa Triathlon is one of Australia's most storied and beloved multisport events, attracting thousands of elite and age-group athletes to Noosa Heads each November. Set against the backdrop of one of Queensland's most glamorous destinations, the race has grown from a local endurance event into a major feature of the Australian triathlon calendar — a race that competitors return to year after year, drawn as much by the quality of the Noosa experience as by the race itself.

The swim leg takes place in the sheltered waters of the Noosa River — a calm, flat course that rewards strong swimmers and gives developing triathletes the confidence of a protected start. Unlike ocean swims, the river setting is free from surf and current variability, making for fast, predictable times and a clean exit into transition. From transition, the bike course heads west into the Noosa hinterland, winding through the countryside around Eumundi before returning to the coast — a route that rewards power output while remaining accessible to competitive age-groupers.

The run leg is what makes the Noosa Triathlon truly unique. Athletes leave transition and head along the Noosa foreshore before turning onto Hastings Street — the famous boulevard of restaurants, boutiques, and cafés that defines Noosa's cosmopolitan character. The finish line on Hastings Street, lined with spectators spilling out from the surrounding restaurants, creates one of the most vibrant and memorable finish-line experiences in Australian sport.

Race week at Noosa extends well beyond the event itself. The Noosa Triathlon Multi Sport Festival — which surrounds the main race — brings additional events, an athlete expo, and a festive atmosphere to the entire Noosa Heads precinct. Restaurants fill with athletes and supporters, Hastings Street buzzes with the energy of thousands of competitors, and the November timing delivers the ideal Sunshine Coast conditions: warm, sunny days, calm seas, and the relaxed energy of the lead-up to summer.
