About Coastrek

Coastrek Sunshine Coast is one of Australia's most meaningful outdoor challenges — a team trekking event that combines spectacular coastal and hinterland scenery with the purpose of raising vital funds for Beyond Blue, Australia's leading mental health organisation. Held annually in late autumn, the event attracts thousands of participants in teams of two to four, united by both the physical challenge and the collective goal of supporting mental health awareness.

The event offers two distance options — distances of 20km, 30km and 50km — both taking participants through some of the Sunshine Coast's most beautiful and diverse landscapes. Trails wind along headland clifftops with sweeping ocean views, through national park bush tracks, across golden beaches, and into the lush green edges of the hinterland. The course is designed to be achievable for most reasonably fit adults while remaining genuinely demanding, making it equally popular with corporate teams, friendship groups, and families with older teenagers.

What distinguishes Coastrek from a typical fun run or charity walk is its team format. Teams of two to four move at their own pace through fully supported checkpoints, creating an experience that's as much about camaraderie and shared challenge as individual performance. The atmosphere at the finish line — where teams arrive throughout the day to cheers, food, and the satisfaction of having raised money for a cause that touches nearly every Australian family — is one of the event highlights.

Teams are encouraged to fundraise well beyond the minimum pledge threshold, with many corporate and community groups using Coastrek as the centrepiece of workplace wellbeing initiatives. The Sunshine Coast setting — with its network of headlands, beaches, and national park trails — creates a natural course unlike anything available in a metropolitan area, and the mild autumn weather makes trekking conditions ideal.
